Xbox User: Game Pass / Controller
I am about 10 hours in and am really enjoying this game. As a fan that grew up on MW4 and the expansions, it genuinely feels like an upgrade. Graphically, the game is beautiful. Mechanically, it operates really well from a controller and is rewarding - may missions were survived by the skin of my teeth.
Intro missions are good and get you acclimated to the world and features in a way that is progressive and helpful. Once the world opens up and you have a chance to jump systems and engage in missions of your choosing, it gets a little confusing until you realize this is an open world, to some extent.
If you are used to a run-and-gun gameplay, this is not for you. Recon and geographic strategy play a huge part. If you brazenly run in guns blazing, you will get wiped by tanks, turrets, and air support before ever seeing a 'Mech to battle near the end of the missions.
With only a few hours in, this feels like a BIG game. I expected to be out of the light / medium size 'Mechs, and into the heavy...but if that were the case, it would be too much too soon. The desire to see new models and earn new chassis keeps me coming back. The frustration of misplacing negotiation points that leave me without C-bills (in game currency) or without enough salvage points to collect the chassis keeps me coming back.
Anyone who is a fan of Mechwarrior would be well served with this game - more like 4.5 starts / 5.
