Sasha Alyson

A captivating story about the life and times of Laurent Clerc, a real-life deaf person who helped ensure that deaf people themselves played a greater role in shaping their education and deciding how they wished to communicate, rather than having those decisions taken from them by a patronizing non-deaf establishment. Although it's called a young-adult book, I'm much older than that and thoroughly enjoyed it.
