I love this game.
Hellblade is all about taking the titular character Senua throughout environmental puzzles and intense combat. The puzzles are all about perception and finding the way to look at something the right way. There are several satisfying combat sequences, where the use of blocking and evasion are not just necessary but can be extremely helpful to making your attacks smooth once you learn how to do it perfectly.
Throughout the entirety of the game your character here’s voices. The voices are always arguing and giving contradictory advise. I found this to be insanely creepy in the best possible way. The game is always trying to screw with you which makes every victory that much sweeter.
I will not give anything away but throughout the last two hours of this game I could not believe what I was seeing and just wanted more of it.
Whereas I would agree that Fire Emblem, Astral Chain, Steins Gate and possibly some others are better overall games, I consider Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice to be my personal favorite game of the year.
