It's fun for a short while but then becomes so mind numbingly dull incredibly quick. If you want a brainless time sink, go for it. The story had the potential to make up for its predictably boring gameplay, but instead of embracing the story already told in BOTW and expanding upon it, Nintendo tucks their tales and reverse course with cheap deus ex machina. This actually makes Botw marginally worst by existing and ruining the narrative it laid down, canon or not, the well has been poisoned.
