Wow. I tried, I really did. With 30 minutes left in the film, I don't care which of the named characters dies; in fact, I slightly hope most of them do. This movie is childish, and not in any positive sense. I love movies with wonder, innocence, and a playful attitude. I also love serious SciFi. Yes, it has great CG. Yes, there may be a cultural barrier I don't understand. There's just nothing I can sink my teeth into and enjoy. The required suspension of disbelief is simply too much. I'm aware that the book had excellent reviews, and I usually read before watching - maybe if I had done so this time? I'm sorry - I had high hopes for this movie. I'd rather go to sleep than try to finish watching it.
