Reading these reviews, I can’t take anymore! Did no one appreciate any deeper meaning & symbolism in this film? First, Redford is not the only “character” in this! The other big star is Shipping. You know, like the giant shipping container that initiates his entire struggle? And then the shipping vessels that pass him at the end of his struggles? Ever heard of allegory? Parable? Fable? Legend? Oracle? It’s the story of modern civilization, consumerism & man’s disregard of nature, as much as it is about survival on the open seas. There is even a long take of the final life raft burning looking like a fiery life preserver, from below. Does Robert Redford need to reach out of the screen & grab you by the throat to make you see? Moving on to all the keyboard maritime professionals. Watch the end credits there sparky, you’ll see all of the many consultants & seagoing experts who contributed to the movie. I’m calling this one, I’m going to trust them over your asinine remarks. And where are you reviewing Fast&Furiless? This is why great movies are so rare. Lack of appreciation that comes from careful watching.

I’m biased in that I love The Weather Underground. That said, a movie with both Robert Redford & Shia LeBeouf? That’s a must! Plus Susan Sarandon, Nick Nolte, Terrence Howard & many more? WTH? Gotta watch just for that cast, however the film is riveting throughout with great dialogue, especially near the end. With all of the schlock, sequels & superheroes out there, this movie stands above, too far above for most American audiences it seems. This is a movie for adults. And ultimately about family.

A must see for Hunter S. Thompson fans. I’d read the book & thought the script captured the essence & much of the clever & beautiful prose. Great cast & cinematography. Sorry for those unfamiliar with the good doctor & Gonzo Journalism & for those too focused on lurid celebrity events. Amber Heard is stunning in this & poignantly portrays a confused & empty soul.

Mamet has always been entertaining but inscrutable and this one checks all the boxes: profane, philosophical, complex but ultimately pointless. Macy does a great job as the main character and the inimitable woodbine does an admirable job, as always, with his small role. Julia Stiles shines as ever. Worth the time just barely.

O’Shea Jackson, despite his douchey name, is a remarkably likable actor who steals the show. He plays bemused landlord and eventual reluctant love interest to the mentally challenged Aubrey Plaza character. This made-for-gen-Z farce, aptly fueled by a dead parent’s bequeathing and social media revenue, doesn’t go very far in any direction other than maintaining a somehow both trite & outrageous decoction of said media & it’s acolytes.

Ashton Kutcher’s character was called “vacuous” at one point. That’s a great description of this entire waste of celluloid. And the music is just added torture.
