Selection Day Season 1 was good for the most part of it. The series' strength lies mostly in its acting. I am in awe of Mohammad Samad's effortlessly beautiful potrayal of Manjunath Kumar. I had a pre-conception of how Manjunath is going to be like, having read the original book by Adiga, and Samad mirrored, triumphantly, my imaginations. I sincerely hope we get to see Samad more and more in films: immense potential and knack at his craft. Rajesh Tailang gripped me with his performance, his potrayal of an almost demented and dreadful father was truly incredible. Mahesh Manjrekar and Rathna Pathak Shah too were memorable. The series has its flaws too- the story seems rushed at countless parts, even trying too hard(the tonic business sub-plot,I feel, was absolutely unnecessary). The story although set in the milieu of Bombay Cricket is really a coming-of-age tale with many themes to it. In perhaps accomodating several themes, it did not do complete justice to all of them(eg:-I feel the series could have explored homosexuality more, showing more intimate moments between Javed & Manju). In all, Selection Day Season 1 was a thrilling watch, a riveting inside-look into the darker sequels of striving to be a cricketer, exploring the game and its players and their doctoring in all honesty. Worth a watch, go ahead!
