What an enormous disappointment after all the preview hype. Modern films about true events of the Second World War have the advantages of ultra realistic special effects and acting styles that accurately reflect the real world, taking you “there”. Think Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. This clunker uses every cliche going, ruins the special effects by making every dive recovery with mere millimeters to spare, ridiculous comic book dialogue and actions. Our pilot hero, rebellious, feisty, highly skilled etc returns to the carrier by diving, engine off, disappearing from sight below the fantail. Dramatic pause. Aircraft appears, catching the first wire, (“I knew he would sir”). In any world except that of the gamers he would never fly again and his insolence would leave him in the brig, but this is only the beginning of the nonsense this movie serves up. Don’t bother, it’s a waste of time.
