Here is the opinion of a Baby Boomer on this new Cruella movie. I have enjoyed watching movies at the theater, television and Drive Inn since I was a little girl way back in the 50s. One reason I have always loved "Walt Disney" movies was that they usually were what used to be called "Feel Good" movies". We would leave the theater after the movie was over and we felt good, felt happy. We mulled over the beautiful, super-creative scenes, fun songs, unique characters, jokes, silly, funny scenes, entertaining story. Sure there were bad, sad or evil characters in these old Disney movies but their bad deeds were not gone into detail with or dwelled on, violence was extremely minimal if it even occurred at all. Good always won out over evil.. bad people got their just deserts. There were moral lessons taught throughout the movies, we were taught it was Ok to be different & to be accepting of diversity, taught positive ways to interact with others, the power of kindness, caring & most importantly taught the importance of true Friendship, Loyalty and Love.. a bit naive but biased towards kindness, love & Not violence or hate. Â
Now as to my opinion of the new movie "Cruella". I love Emma Stone & Emma Thompson as Actors, much of the old 60s/70s Rock music was good as were the costumes, the movie was fairly entertaining. There was some creativity but could I get excited about taking my grandchildren or one of the children in my family to see Cruella?? What part would I be excited to share with them or for them to experience, see or hear from this movie?? Was it a "feel good movie" No, it was dark. No good morale lessons No kindness & good life lessons, lots of comedy? The answer to all above for me would have to be a big No. It was an Ok movie and I agree with Roger Ebert's online Movie Review which appeared to sum up Cruella as Entertaining but Fair. Peace, love to all..
PS-Also this movie was Loud. My husband & I have been leaving the theater early because the Booming Volume is so annoying, grating, especially during action scenes. Most action scenes are way too over the top, they jolt you almost out of your seat, there aren't just explosions anymore or small mishaps, there are mainly gigantic Mega Explosions or huge accidents that shoot out fire & smoke, debris larger than the size of the Empire State building all over the screen. These humongous special effects seem to over take any incidents that may be occurring, ruining, spoiling the continuity of the story line.
