Both B Unnikrishnan's Villian (2017) and M Padmakumar's Joseph (2018) tell the story of a retired police officer. Villian is an example of how a film shouldn't be and Joseph shows how to make a good film. Joseph excels in its acting, direction, story, screenplay and camera works. The movie is lengthy, the duration could have been trimmed. The tragedy is happening for three members of the same family is hard to believe. The reason for divorce of Joseph with his wife is also not logical. Joju George deserves a state award for his acting in Joseph.

This is not a cliche heist movie. It has a unique story, presented in a realistic manner. The movie is uplifted by the terrific performances of the lead.
