If this movie could be described in one word I could only call it "Toxic". My husband and I decided to sit and watch a movie during the weekend and this was something he decided to watch since he hadn't watched it previously. One suffering from an abusive marriage definitely needs support and she was staying with a work colleague who asked her why would she want to pursue a married man? I couldn't help not getting irritated with the character "Aaranya". She was told that Gautam was married and had a child, her mental distress isn't a justification for the way she behaves. She could've gone to a counsellor to talk it out or gone to a friend instead of pursuing an already married ex-lover. Gautam too had no reason to give into her demands or tantrums and could've easily filed a complaint for harassment. I could come off as insensitive but when one says they aren't interested it means they aren't interested. No is a No and it has to be understood. It was extremely irritating to watch irrespective of how good the performances were. Pathetic!

It's pathetic how this movie makes people want to sympathize with creatures as pathetic as Gertrude and Paula. Mental health and medications does not give one the excuse to abuse a child. I remember trembling and praying that Sylvia escapes from the horrors that she faced, the screams haunt me to this date. I cannot imagine the amount of pain Sylvia Likens would have actually gone through. Sylvia did not deserve to die a death as painful as she did. She was young, beautiful and had an entire life ahead. An American crime is not a movie for those who are extremely sensitive.

Not a fan of movies. But this is most definitely a film that challenges the mentality of the "so-called" educated and modern people. I love how the movie elaborated on the importance of "sex education", a good relationship between couples irrespective of age and how it's high time to normalize middle aged women deciding to have children and raise them. This movie taught me to set aside the belief that everything should be limited to age and gender. Watched Badhaai Ho and was equally excited to watch Veetla Vishesham. It truly is an eye opener
