"Itazura na Kiss" is an anime I watched in 2020 and rewatched last week. The anime depicts a somewhat toxic relationship even after marriage. Naoki is portrayed as a cold-hearted and arrogant man who doesn't respect Kotoko. Both brothers, Naoki and Yuki, share similar personality traits. Kotoko lacks self-respect and ignores Kinnosuke's feelings. However, one thing is clear: Kotoko remains true to Naoki.
The anime highlights Naoki Irie's male chauvinistic tendencies. He expects Kotoko not to get jealous when he interacts with other women, yet he shows a cold attitude towards Kotoko's interactions with men like Keita. Naoki is portrayed as a domineering and strict husband. Interestingly, Kotoko's mother-in-law, Noriko, who saw Kotoko as her own daughter before and after marriage is fully supportive of her, which is unique compared to typical portrayals where the husband is affectionate while the mother-in-law is antagonistic or strict.
In "Itazura na Kiss," Naoki is depicted as a strict husband while Noriko plays the role of a pampering mother-in-law. This anime also depicts that Naoki married Kotoko primarily for companionship, particularly intimacy, and often reacts coldly towards her even after their love marriage.
