There is something to be said for a story that is well told and well-acted along the way, and Lost certainly fits in this category, but for me, it needs to build toward a satisfying and cohesive ending. Lost kept me longing for solutions to all of the interesting mysteries it raised, but the pseudo-spiritual, cop-out ending made it clear that the writers were just winging it one episode at a time.

The best thing about this story is that it never veers too far away from its most compelling feature: Beth's intense love for the game. All of the triumphs and tragedies in the plot are beautifully woven around this one central theme in a very satisfying manner. A superbly acted, epic battle where the ultimate contestants - deeply divided by both politics and competitiveness - are irresistibly and graciously united by their love for the game itself. Leaves you with a really good feeling.
