The gameplay is excellent and the visuals are phenomenal. The sound, lighting, etc. are also top-notch. I also grew to love the characters, even the ones the game obviously wants you to hate at the beginning, and that's a huge accomplishment on Naughty Dog's part. My only gripe with the game is how the story is presented. The storyline here is not nearly as clean or tightly told as the first game. The way flashbacks are used in this game makes the story a choppy experience. The story also feels disjointed at times. The best example I can think of is near the final act where a cutscene feels like the end of the game, only for the player to discover that there's at least another hour of gameplay and more tense action scenes. I found myself exhausted by that and eager for the actual end of the game.
Without getting into too much detail, I also found myself genuinely disappointed in Ellie as a character, someone who I do care for and want to see happy. This game is certainly a roller-coaster, but if you were a fan of the original, you owe it to yourself to not only finish this game, but enjoy and appreciate it for all the haunting beauty it offers.
