Lok may not reach ATLA standards. Honestly the show is still amazing and it for sure overhated due to people being bias. Yes the show has its flaws. It's not flaws where its like "OMG this show is the worst show in history". Most of things that are point out are sometimes ridiculous and some of it is reasonable. There people who over reacts about certain things in Lok. A good example is people calling Korra weak if she loses a fight due to having disadvantages like being poisoned that hindering from fighting Zaheer in the air to beginning of book four of her struggle with trauma and mercury poisoning. Yet nobody calls Aang weak for losing and retreating countless times. Even Avatar Kyoshi lost few battles. I can go on about the many things people would hate about Lok but ignores that the things they hate happened in ATLA too.
Overall its nice to see Korra journey and displaying the human side of being the avatar. While Aang displayed human becoming the avatar. She proves that avatar are not some unstoppable god like being, that they're still human who has emotions and regardless are destined to make mistakes just like any human has done, including her past lives. Korra lives in an era that believes they don't need the avatar anymore, that it's part of the old era. Which is why we see so many people trying to destroy the avatar cycle permanently and kill Korra. With Korra being sheltered throughout her childhood, it took time for her to settle into the reality of a new world she has no experience in. As time progresses, she slowly learns and grows into compassionate avatar. Yes, she starts out hot headed and sometimes goes into fights without thinking things through. I feel like people shouldn't hate her for that, it's not like we've never seen Aang, Toph, Katara and especially Zuko have their outburst and being hot headed, and stubborn. Going back to Korra. Her compassion and willing to succeed led to change in the world, she the avatar that brought change to the world more than any of her past lives has done in a short amount of time stated by Tenzin. It makes sense since she originally from the water tribe, water avatar usually brings change to the world. My favorite quote from Korra " I realized even though we should learn from those who came before us, we must forge our own paths. Which goes well with what Kuruk has told Aang that he must shape his own destiny and destiny of the world. It also connects to what Yang Chen told Aang and Kyoshi that you can't always rely on your past lives for answers. You must rely on people around you. Due to the world constantly changing and only past lives have their own experiences of the world they lived in during their era as the avatar. Which leads to book three being about change and Korra leading that world in a new direction. It also was hinted in ATLA that Korra was going to be the last avatar of the first cycle and first of the new cycle. Due to the avatar statues at the air temple showing there only one spot left after Aang. I generally enjoyed this show and found Korra to be more relatable upon certain things. It's best to watch this show without anyone influence on the show, see it with your own eyes.
