written. At the time of publication, the book didn't go well but got success after author's death and crowned as the Great American novel. It describes the Jazz age, the most strident era in American history and maintains its modernity.
This story is all about The Great Jay Gatsby. A multi millionaire young man lives in West Egg on an island full of opportunities and properties. Nick Carraway, the narrator of the novel is staying right next to Gatsby's gothic mansion. Gatsby is fond of hosting lavish parties but people are suspicious about his occupation and the way he has made so much of wealth. Daisy is a lady love of Gatsby the king of manner and status, whom he met before World War I and now she is the better half of a very well established and well reputed Tom Buchanan.
Gatsby's role play is distinct since beginning for readers. He is a man of mindfulness, courage and is pretty much clear about his aims. Working hard to be successful is the element of the story. A self made wealthy Gatsby wants the girl of his dream (Daisy) back. This obsession holds and leads the tale of longing and disillusion.
The plot is written with subtlety and has quick move of events. One must be attentive while reading it to relish and explore the flow of language. Lyrical touch can be felt due to poetically framed phrases. It is easier even today to connect with the plot as it consists of social barriers, recklessness and struggle against fortune. "Old Sport" is Gatsby's favorite expression that was generally used by English high society gentlemen of 20th century.
"I hope she'll be a fool, that's the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool."
