Ben’s story is an eye opener, and beautifully written.
Normally I’m not a fan of travel books, but this one had me riveted. What an interesting young man Ben Harris is. A few times he mentions he left school without qualifications. He might not be highly educated in an academic way (who cares) but he brings a fierce intelligence to how he engages with life and the people he meets. Many people live their entire lives shielding themselves from other ways of living and seeing the world. Not Ben.
Decades ago, I travelled in Nepal and North India and, on some levels, not much has changed. I did not attempt to enter and travel through Tibet. Or Afghanistan.
On occasion I felt for his mother. Thank goodness she didn’t have a clue what her son was up to until he was safely through difficult spots.
Highly recommend.
