I think this movie received unfair criticisim on release, largely due to overwhelming expectations. I thought the movie was going to be aweful, but as far as Disney remakes go, this is one of their best. As for Will Smith as Genie, I would not have cast him in the role, but I do admire his interpretation and he does have a unique flair that was enjoyable to watch. I think filling the shoes Robin Williams left behind was always going to be a hard task for whoever tried.

I was hoping for a little more than a B-movie but sadly I was disappointed. Apart from the two main characters I felt the acting was quite flat and the script was unengaging. The story was similar to other 'robot' movies raising big questions about life itself and sentience...though executed not as well. There were a few unique moments, almost artistic, with worthy special effects and a good musical score. Though ultimately I found this to be a mediocre experience and one I wouldnt sit through again. My advice, watch if your a hardcore sci fi / robot movie fanatic otherwise go for more mainstream variations of this genre.

Ok. I love to binge time travel movies from time to time (excuse the pun) and so often they can be a complete let down... but this was NOT one of those let downs.. this was AWESOME. Its not a mind-shattering new take on time travel films or anything. Its just a well-rounded, constantly progressive story arc that had me gripped until the very end. And although I was able to guess some parts of the narrative, I was quite happy to say it surprised me a little too. It might not be a revolutionary change to time travel films, but its certainly an 8/10 for me - well worth a watch, and an absolute no-brainer for anyone into their time travel movies!
