I admit I loved the classic Disney movie from my childhood, and I was a bit apprehensive of how I would feel about the remake. I was worried that Will Smith would not be a believable genie, or that the character wouldn't live up to my expectations. In my opinion no one could ever outshine or even live up to my expectations of Robin Williams' portrayal of genie. Then I watched the 2019 version. I thought it was great. For a remake, they kept enough similarities that I never doubted the direction of the movie that was being made. Genie was not the character that I knew, but was still lighthearted and fun. Will Smith pulled off an attitude that I feel would have made the late great Robin Williams proud. The actor who portrayed Aladdin was spectacular and quite believable. The musical numbers were fantastic with just a few small changes, as well as a new song called speechless. I thought there were a few things that could have been better. There were a few scenes that the movement was sped up and I found it distracting, and the character of Princess Jasmin lacked a certain spark which left something to be desired. Jafar I dont feel was cast correctly, yet it didn't take much away from the overall feel of the show.
That being said I plan to return to watch it a second time while it is still in the theaters. This movie definatly lived up to it's expectations.
