This show portrays the main character as being strong and willing to work hard even though obstacles are thrown at her right and left. I yelled at the screen as she made so many mistakes through the series. Slowly, through the flashbacks, we see why she is stoic and reluctant to seek help. Past abuses as a child, especially those that are not seen, can be so harmful. Adult on adult abuse as shown in the movie is a continuing cycle, that affects the children and the adult they become. Other reviewers can’t understand the mistakes Alex made because they would never have let their child suffer the way that Maddie did. I’m very happy if they had difficult childhoods, we’re abused, then, made good choices, not everyone is so blessed.
