The context of the film is critical. Set against mounting evidence of corruption, and the fight of two polar visions of Roman Catholic Church future, we find two very different but strong characters who wrestle together, forgive together and play even dance together. Very well scripted and even better acted, if true, the film paints these these popes as the kind of leaders we all want to be able to choose from. This modern age justifiably chooses Francis, but somewhere we can find some rationale for Benedict if it weren't for the record of both in coping with organizational corruption/decadence over which each has been too blind to. The film is a must see for anyone with an interest in understanding what the church really means by forgiveness at both the highest and most human level.
