SPOILERS !!!!!!!
A decent action flick but probably the worst of the Craig era .
The film starts very strong with a brilliant pre title sequence. One of the best of the Craig era , really setting the film up well. It’s the best we see of bond in the entire film and ultimately the best part of the film . As per, the cinematography and the locations are beautiful providing something very different to all the other DC films . Unfortunately the rest of the film fails to live up to the first 15-20 minutes.
The biggest problem is that Daniel craig seems to be playing an entirety different Bond . He’s not as witty , as clever , as suave or as intense as the previous films . This is best summed up by the seen with Christof Waltz, in which Bond integrates Blofeld . Bond seems lost , he waffles , he seems to have no idea how to integrate. Like he’s lost his spark . Daniel Craig’s screen presence is not as intense or as captivating as any of the other four movies . Compare that seen to his encounter with Vesper on the train (Casino Royale ) or with the closing scene of Quantum. Compare it to Bonds discussion with Severine in the Macau casino (Skyfall) or his first encounter with Madeline in spectre . Tell me that’s the same bloke as the Bond in NTTD. Don’t get me wrong Craig’s Bond has developed over the course of the series, he has grown older and his character has changed . His performance in Casino Royale is very different to that of Spectre . But in this one he seems to have lost the spark that made him so brilliant in the other four.
The plot has many holes , it seems rushed , the Villain is just a knock off of Blofeld. Yet again , just another villain with family issues who has a personal connection to the protagonists . Some cool plot points , like Bond not knowing if he should trust Madeline and Bond having a kid . Although the latter lacking some substance.
It’s too corny in places and goes to fair away from the Craig formula. There’s a general lack of stakes for such a big plan and a lack of intensity .
The ending is pretty anti climatic too. Problem with killing Bond , is that it makes the other films feel pointless. Baring in mind this film is the most fantastically of the DC Films , it seems silly that Bond survives so many ridiculous situations just to be killed off at the end .
It’s not there bad , but it’s a let down . Not the send off he deserved . Worth a watch tho for the Cars , cinematography, locations and the opening 20 minutes . Ultimately it’s a film of what could have been , had they tightened up the plot , and stuck to the more grounded craig formula.
