Westerns don't move me. Violence for its own sake turns me off. But this is a violent western which I have recommended to countless people.
Can't explain exactly what it is, except I think there's a moral component to this that appeals to me. As in: the "upright" lawman represents the worst of moral authority, and in the end an outlaw comes around and salvages things, in a manner that will take your breath away. And maybe make you shed a tear for what reality forces on us. Just like in real life--don't trust the easy conclusions about who anyone is.
The Proposition is an excellent film on many levels. Don't miss it.
You might need subtitles (with poor hearing I always do), as the Aussie accent can be tough for us outsiders.
