It reads like a cheap telenovela, riddled with offensive stereotypes. Most non-Latino Americans have embraced it for its thrilling pace, reinforcing their perceived view of Latino culture. I say to Flatiron and other major publishers, do better. Surely there are authors worthy of promotion that take into account a nuanced authentic observation or Latino culture.
