Steve Carell nails this part to the tee, and owns this movie. Having lost my own young wife to cancer with three precocious teenagers still living in the home, I can relate completely to the combination of sadness, loneliness and semi-shock when I too, like Dan, suddenly find myself making the sandwiches for the kids lunches. (And, just like Dan, I too was a former newspaper writer and columnist.) Also, as Dan and I would ultimately prove in our lives, there are no perfect fathers... just degrees of "not-so-good dads" to "bad fathers." But we do our best, and with God's help..we somehow survive and somehow make it! And like Dan, I also found love again. This is a great flick, and every actor played their part to the max. This movie makes me cry and laugh every time I see it; and also makes me wonder why there aren't more great films like this made in Hollywood!
