For reference I play these games casually, for fun, on regular difficulty. I played Assassins Creed II when it came out, then nothing, then Origins and Odyssey BOTH this year (including DLC), so they are fresh in my mind and I am aware I played them after they were completely fine-tuned.
That being said - I enjoyed Origins and Odyssey both more than this one regarding the story line, types of gear, the use of the bird, the map, almost everything, the fine-tuning that’s obviously needed aside. This game feels like ... a Viking game unrelated to the rest of the Assasins Creed games. The only thing that I like more in this game is the unguided “World Events” that are a replacement for side quests. Overall I’m often bored, which I never felt with Origins and Odyssey.
The game overall does feel unfinished, anyone looking to buy it today should note. It crashes often, I have to restart quests because they get in a loop, etc. More unfinished than other (not Assassins Creed) games I have bought new. Probably would have passed on buying a few more months if I could go back in time.
