Felt like a dream that you try to remember when you wake up - felt cool but made zero sense. "You will never understand what it feels like to be a 13 year old girl". Apparently neither did the filmakers because all we seem to learn about these girls is that they died at the end. I was hyped to watch this because Sofia Coppola made it but honestly this was a huge miss. Felt like it should have been an hour longer, and the 'poorly adapted novel' feeling was really prevelant in this one. I was expecting this to be some cornerstone of feminine cinema but I could not connect to the girls at all because we jsut learn nothing about them. I see people saying that the male perspectives were intentional, but even if that is the case, it's just another film where girls are studied from the outside and their sexuality is the primary interest. Did not feel feminist at all to me, it seemed to glorify objectification of teenage girls. Do not forget that the original novel was written by a man. I left this film feeling confused and annoyed and wanting my time back. Soundtrack and cinematography was good.
