Kim Possible would have been an okay movie if not for the fact that many of the characters weren't true to their original concepts. I'm not so much talking about cosmetic changes made to characters to make them more contemporary and politically correct (though making Bonnie, likely the least likable character in the series, Asian instead of Caucasian seemed to be a misstep from a political correctness standpoint) as the characters being "off" personality-wise. It seemed that the more important the character, the more off their personality seemed to be, with Drakken and Kim being the worst.
Drakken, while smart enough to create an android like Athena (supported by the fact that even early in season 1 he was able to create the Bebes), at this point in his villain career (slightly pre-season 1) in the series would neither have had the deviousness nor the insight needed to formulate a plan that played on Kim's weaknesses like this. In any event, even if Drakken had been able to come up with a plan like this at this point in the series, likely it would not have worked to this extent in the series, with Athena probably being more of a nuisance to Kim (sort of like her brothers joining her in high school in the season 4 episode "Trading Places") than the totally morale-crushing influence she was to Kim in the movie. In some ways it seemed the new movie was attempting to recycle the plot of the 2005 "So the Drama" movie and ends up looking second-rate in comparison.
Overall, I would have given this movie a 2 star rating on a scale of 0 to 4 stars if it had simply been a generic teenage spy movie, but since it was a Kim Possible movie that wasn't true to the title character, I would have to downgrade it to a 1 star rating.
Hopefully Disney will be able to do a better job with the rumored Kim Possible series, if it turns out to be an actual thing.
