[Mild Spoiler] I honestly was so deeply disappointed in the movie adaptation of the book. In the book violet isn't some dainty girl that needs saving, she's a lost teenage woman trying to find her way in a world where her sister no longer exists. Then comes along the witty, charming, and larger-than-life Theodore Finch who gives her the gift of what it means to be alive, when he himself couldn't even see it.
The movie did not do the characters any justice. You don't feel any raw enigmatic connection to the characters that made you feel like you were right there with them feeling the highs and lows of life. The connection that Jennifer Niven so beautifully orchestrated between the reader and the characters in the book was lost in the movie. It seemed like they were trying to make the movie this "oh-so-moving plot", but they just completely missed the mark. In the book you get filled up with life, and in the movie you don't get that satisfaction. You don't come out of the movie with a whole new perspective of life like you do in the book. So please, do yourself a favor and read the book! It will heal broken pieces of your soul that you didn't even know existed in ways the movie never could.
