I walked into the theater expecting this movie to be like Pixels — a horrible video game movie with way too much undeserved hype and a horrible script. It’s an understatement to say my expectations were greatly exceeded. Free Guy has quickly joined my list of top 10 favorite movies. It is the perfect mix of funny and serious. I thought the incorporation of infamous video game players (such as Jackepticeye, DanTDM, Lazarbeam, Ninja, etc.) would play out in an awkward way and feel out of place, but it just worked perfectly. There were multiple times where I couldn’t help but laugh out loud due to unexpected cameos and hilarious lines. 5/5 stars. I’m probably going to watch it again in a few days.
