DOOM 64 is my favorite and most beloved release in the DOOM franchise.
I love the formula of classic DOOM games, but DOOM 64 really takes the cake.
The lighting is very limited compared to previous releases (I definitely recommend maxxing the brightness setting in the Options menu), but the darkness really adds to the immersion and is complemented extremely well with its abstract and eerie soundtrack like nothing else I've ever heard in a game, especially in the 90s.
The sprites in this game are beautifully grotesque and have aged extremely well. The designs of the demons are much more detailed than in the original releases, not to mention the quality of all the weapon sprites and that wonderful double-blade chainsaw. Again, that complementing darkness just gives these sprites a lot of grit and a much more serious essence, even compared to the demons in the DOOM 2016 reboot.
I just really love this game. I am overjoyed that this is FINALLY getting it's well-deserved and long-overdue PC release.
