disappointed - Cooper has no purpose, no deeper brooding torment or menace, no desire to climb socially as did Tyrone Power in the original. Cooper just goes through the motions of finding a grift and then failing at it. Yawn. He was miscast. Also, the story is hardboiled noir. The director doesn't seem to understand what that purest of American film genres is all about, or how to capture it on film. The cinematography is muddy and too orange. Black and white might have saved this flick but I doubt it. Oscar to the geek. He is the only one who evokes any pathos.
