It could have been better if the Bengali atmosphere was not used. The actors could freely speak in Hindi, like the Germans speak English in Hollywood movies. The speech, accent and environment are totally alien to reality, from a Bengali perspective.
Let’s forget that and from a larger perspective look at the movie. The milieu is set up at which time? It must have been in the 90s, because there is reference to a famous song of Manna De that had been already famous. But it looks too old for the 90s. The record player belongs to mid-70s and early 80-s, there are glimpses of cassettes in a shelf, belonging to the 90-s. But the cars do not go well with the auto in which Tarini arrives at Garodia’s residence.
It’s a kind of superficial ‘old time saga’ that is only apparently appreciable. The rest is a story of wish fulfilment and a totally wrong understanding of the Bengali cultural ethos.
Acting is brilliant, as the two lead actors are brilliant, but the movie does not move, getting stuck to an indefinite time period and decoration, which is forgettable.
