It has a good story line to set itself apart from SOA. People need to stop the comparisons between Mayans and SOA though. The show is currently focusing more on the family affairs of the Cartel. And I question the "reality" of it. This show, I believe makes the leader (Galindo) look weak because in real life there's no way he (Galindo) gets treated the way the way he does (with no repercussions). Sutter also "white washes" the show way too much. Make it more authentic, Sutter and you'll have yourself another SMASH HIT SERIES!
