"Time" is the fifth album by Kyra and Tully, and it is this one that catapults them from the Triple-A League to the Major Leagues. This is not to diminish their previous efforts at all, but—to continue the baseball metaphor—with this album they have "knocked it right out of the park."
First, the poetic lyrics are hauntingly beautiful, each tune linked to the others by some common threads--love, of people, of nature, of life, and—not the least—love between partners. (One cannot escape the sense that these are love songs between two partners in real life, as Kyra and Tully are.)
Beyond the lyrics, the music seems to me fuller, more lush. Many of the songs are enriched by friends and colleagues who add cello, violin, acoustic stand-up bass, and, I believe, by overdubbed harmonies with their own voices. Kyra's voice has never sounded more beautifully ethereal. Meanwhile, Tully's homespun melodies give the songs a particular sort of firm grounding.
In my mind, this is their best album to date. And if they knocked it out of the park with this album, their next is likely to be a grand slam!
