I really liked the movie and the special effects were quite good. I think this is the best of the last trilogy. I would give it 4 stars, but the 3D effects were very, very, very disappointing. The good surround sound and the poor framing of some of the scenes just made the lack of any real 3D effects more noticeable. Expect Disney 3D for kids. The first 10 minutes of the movie set the expectations for the rest of the movie when it comes to the so-called 3D experience. Example: The opening shows the normal text scrolling off into the distance. You're in a dark theater, with a dark background, and the gold text appears on the bottom of the screen with the letters on the far ends clipped off. You can't see the physical edges of the screen, but now their presence has been thrown in your face. Get used to it. That "watching through a picture window" feeling is there and obvious through the whole movie. There are scenes in the movie where part of the action is clippped off by the edges or bottom of the screen. Don't expect anything to come onto your side of the screen. You're effectively paying for depth perception through a very large picture window 25 feet away from you. One of the best parts about watching Star Wars movies has always been how well they've used the available technologies to give you the best movie experience they can, but it looks like that's history.
