Well, the visuals themselves can give this movie a plus in my book. The colors, styles, and elements are gorgeous! And none of the styles was stereotypical CGI, which is something worth watching for a mainstream children’s film in the 2010’s. I could go on forever on how the visuals make me smile.
The story was also followable and likable. There are no really stereotypical characters or parts anywhere really. I love how the villain had a subplot, went too far and had a moment during the final fight where he sees that what he’s doing isn’t going to work, but he doesn’t have an existential crisis about it, and he finishes what he started. Miles is such a compelling character, which is obvious because he is the main character and a teenager. He is relatable and likable. Peter Parker is a good character here, probably one of the more complex versions of him. The other spider peeps were great too. I thought the pig was going to weigh down the movie a little with his comedy relief burden, but he was a character that I genuinely thought was funny, and he didn’t weigh down the movie. The comedy is nice, though not the greatest jokes a kids movie has had.
Although the movie is really good, it isn’t all perfect. I was a little confused as to where the final fight was taking place, although amazing. There was a “death” of part of one of the spider people, which had a great lead up, but didn’t really go anywhere, it just kind of...happened? That’s all I can think of honestly. Everything else is amazing
More good things are very genuine moments between characters that felt real and not plot driven, both funny and emotional. The soundtrack was perfection. How different it was to other movies plot-wise was amazing. It is just so unique in the best ways. Lastly, this Aunt May is POSSIBLY THE COOLEST PART! So I would definitely recommend this to literally anyone, especially families or Spider-Man fans. Definite 10/10.
