I just saw the new Star Wars movie and feel it could not have been more of a course correction from the narrative and events of The Last Jedi...and honestly I am not sure I could be any more satisfied. It's like I had almost forgotten what it is like to walk out of a new movie from a beloved childhood franchise feeling...happy.
The Rise of Skywalker was certainly not a perfect movie but nitpicks aside to me actually felt like Star Wars. Call me crazy, but I think that sometimes fans do not want their expectations subverted. Sometimes they just want to be told a good story in a universe they grew up loving and the characters from this universe treated in a way that fits their original arcs. This is what The Force Awakens and The Rise of Skywalker did for me...and what The Last Jedi did not.
Maybe it was all the fan service or maybe I am just getting old and love the nostalgia. And if you like The Last Jedi, that's fine. You like what you like. But I for one am happy with how The Rise of Skywalker brought back the feeling and excitement of Star Wars and gave meaning to the plot points and narratives introduced The Force Awakens while paying respect to the original trilogy.
Just one fan's humble opinion. :)
