A beautifully acted and directed film which took me out of my living room into a post WW 2 world in Leningrad. I was one of the survivors putting one foot in front of the other keeping on going into hope that lay barely beyond the fringes of survival. I loved the humanity that came through and the process of healing that had begun for some at least. The worst lay in the past but still the severely wounded had a need for mercy which was there.
A deeply felt and compassionate movie, brilliantly paced and yes, the use of colour added a dimension not seen before. Some scenes captured the light and timings and depth of a masterpiece. Green was inspiring. Artistically fine.
