It was very well done IMO and captured a good essence of the original. I thought the actors did a great job they managed to pull off the characters well and the set designers did a great job recreating from the anime which I bet wasn't easy.
I understand the anime purists will mostly hate it but if you're normal and into sci fi this will most likely hit all the right spots, I'm glad they made it and hope for a season 2.
