I thought I had to come and bat for this movie as I've been witnessing some hate on social media. It's not the best movie by a long shot and I feel everyone's review these days are either "It's amazing" or "It's terrible" and that's about as in depth of a movie review they can do.
The family and I went for my Birthday and as a 42 year old straight, white male it's hard these days to find a movie to get excited about. I really liked the look of this and was hoping for an IMAX showing but had to settle for a regular screen. There was also my wife and 3 daughters. 20,17 and 7.
All of us over a big age gap thoroughly enjoyed the movie from start to finish. The pace was great and even kept the 7 year old engaged. The movie takes you over a wide range of emotions and is wonderfully acted with great chemistry between the small cast. The wife shed a tear, we all had plenty of jumps and nail biting moments.
The CGI wasn't the best, I'd put it on par with a marvel Tv show but for me the story and acting takes precedent over that anyway. I was fully immersed, never looking at my watch and was left wanting more. I felt myself asking at the end "what creatures and fauna does he have on his own planet, how many languages? etc
The rage of dinosaurs was great and they could have cheeped out on us with just a T-rex but there was plenty to see on Earth 65 million years ago. Cinematography was outstanding and the team did a great job creating a brilliant movie in the tough working conditions created by our overbearing, big brother government's during covid.
I hope to see a sequel or two in the future of how humans revisited and populated the planet. Thank you
