It read like a series of tragedies and traumas. The stories remind us of what it was like before women had access to family planning resources. Multiple births and birth traumas in impoverished, urban life will have detrimental impacts on a woman’s physical and mental well being. As a society, are we moving back to that?!

Powerful performance by Ashton Sanders! I appreciated the update of the story and the aestethic of Bigger Thomas. But I needed more narration, read the book decades ago. Was the rage there in Bigger’s character? Or was he a young man, being & becoming who was interrupted and killed by tragic events and the alienation and demonization of young Black men? It was a thought provoking gut punch on the state of race and class in today’s America?
