They skipped past a lot of things that could have tied this show together. For example, the girls meet and they hate each other, and then one episode later they're best friends. Musa has a hard time helping her boyfriend then one minute later without an explanation as to why her reaction was so extreme she's back and helping. Dane friends with Terra she gets mad at him and suddenly he's bullying Riven? Also Riven was just cringy. Bloom was the worst of teens before this extra angst even happened, again with no explanation. I just think they had to stuff way too much into six episodes. It was also whitewashed and a rather copy-paste kind of story. They took everything that made Winx fun and unique stripped it threw it away and rewrote a Winx fanfiction mixed with vampire diaries. I think they could have done better if literally any of the writers had knowledge of the franchise they were working with.
It just came out rather dull compared to the scope of places, creatures, and cultures they had to work with. It was a dark and gritty world which was fine but they could have taken the cultures alone and given the girls a reason to be uncomfortable with each other. Overcoming that barrier to become friends would have let the friendships feel less awkward and forced. Personality flaws are great but knowing where they come from is better. Bloom was this borderline emo girl in a seemingly normal household, why? What stopped her from having friends? Just having Techna in the show or showing literally and tech fairy would have explained the Instagram thing. It was the little details for me that caused this show to be mediocre instead of amazing. It feels like a rough draft made it through to casting. I hope they can improve and don't ruin the admittedly shaky foundation that they've built up.
