It's a brilliant programme, in every respect - true to life, pulls no punches, and accurately reflects the social and economic conditions of the time, as well.as the dilemmas faced by professionals. The period detail is accurately observed too - but one small criticism: in several episodes, including the most recent, reference is made to contacting " Social Services " , but Social Services departments only came into existence in 1971, prior to that the Children's Department of the local authority was the relevant body. I speak as someone who entered the social work profession in 1972!
