I loved Edward Woodward's "Equalizer" but, too, I loved "Sherlock Holmes" and had great reservations about watching "Elementary" (also on CBS). But I learned that one cannot compare the reimagined new version to the classic version. On it's own, Elementary became one of my absolutely favorite television shows (my wife, too). And, standing on their own, CBS's S.W.A.T., McGyver and Magnum P.I. fall flat (although I like the Ferrari). Latifa seems to have shucked that rapper attitude and sideways head jerk to take this roll seriously. I really like the new dynamic. I know the pilot had to set up a lot of foundational things and thereby seemed to ramble in places, but the potential is really there. And she drives a Jag - an SUV, but still, a Jag. The sniper chick can go but the tech nerd - much needed in a modern-day plot these days - works great. Obviously, someone like Robyn McCall has a lot of such connections so we could see some drift in and out of various episodes. I so want this show to succeed - not because of the racial image of a black woman as the lead - but because it's good writing, great story potential and a leading cast that are seasoned and make it believable. I gave the pilot only four stars in anticipation that the writers will follow up with five-star episodes on the horizon.
