It was well-produced, good cast and great costuming but that's everything I can say that redeems it. Its pedophilic undertones are so heavy sometimes that I had a visceral reaction or rolled my eyes so hard they went to another dimension. The fact that Josie is a reporter who goes to a high school is fine, but the fact that she is videotaping the whole experience is not okay. At times she is filming in the school bathroom or kids making out, which I believe is considered illegal on grounds of filming child p*rn if I'm not mistaken. That isn't even the worst thing the movie included, the Josie's teacher who is meant to be her love interest is always under the impression that she is a minor, which is mentioned several times without
the characters addressing how creepy and gross that is. Her brother is even worse, as he consistently gawks at these high school girls and expresses how 'hot' they all are, while we know that he is 23. He ends up getting a happy ending with no consequences regardless. As a high schooler myself, I found this extremely repugnant and disgusting, as Hollywood is know for how they portray underage girls and for being apologists of statutory r*pe or general inappropriate behavior. I would like Disney+ to take this up and take a stand on this movie now that they are streaming it with no disclaimer or anything. This is my least favorite Drew Barrymore movie due to this pedophilia.
