I finally got to see THOR LOVE AND THUNDER, and it was wonderful! Taika Waititi wisely chose to not re-do his RAGNAROK, but framed this one as a children's story, in the vein of The Brothers Grimm, including very, very dark themes and images. Christian Bale as Gorr the God Butcher has the best backstory since Thanos, which includes very good reasons for why he does what he does. Grief and pain can take over your entire life if you let it, and Gorr does let it. The love story between Thor and Jane Foster blooms in full here, and Jane's arc comes straight from the Thor comics. Yes, there is much humor here, especially when we meet Zeus, who is not the Zeus we expect or have seen portrayed in the past. There is also a ton of heart, and I hope you cried like I did. And the final tag is perfect and beautiful, having been alluded to all through the movie. Taika did a great job with LOVE AND THUNDER, and I applauded when the other reason for the title came in Korg's storytelling. Four stars.

A beautiful film. An adaption of the Edmund Rostand classic featuring one of the finest actors of our time, Peter Dinklage, in a role he was born to play. This Cyrano is not burdened of nose; he is simply smaller than most men, but his heart and his intellect are huge, overflowing, and he has the poet's gift for words. He has loved his Roxanne since they were children in the same village, loved from afar, loved as close friends. He honestly believes that he is unworthy of her as he is small. Heartbreaking. When Roxanne falls for a handsome man she has never formally met, in the same regiment as Cyrano, a triangle is formed. Christian, the handsome man who has trouble putting words together, allies with Cyrano, the poet, to become one perfect man for their Roxanne. The production, the music, the cinematography all work together to create a beautiful experience. I am so glad that I did not let the naysayers keep me from CYRANO.

I enjoyed the movie thoroughly, but I subtract one star because they did not bring back the magnificent Wonder Woman theme played on electric strings, as was used so effectively in Batman V Superman. I was hoping that it would emerge triumphantly when Diana showed up in her golden armor, but no dice. Otherwise, a very good story. Not the usual Superhero fare, but an excellent take on the old tale of the Monkey's Paw. Be careful what you wish for!
