Pale Amigo

I remember watching this movie as a teenager. To fully appreciate the movie you would have to take into consideration what was going on in Miami in the mid to late '80s. Also, this movie gets bonus points for originality. Out of the thousands of movies made, I don't remember a movie having a similar plot. Whoever can't appreciate the message(s) being conveyed in this movie is either "Privileged" or un-American.

This is one of my all-time favorite documentaries. One way to appreciate it would be to rewind back to what life was like in the early eighties and combined it with the average mindset of a young man attempting to make ends meet working in a drug-infested area of the city. For me, the documentary is not about right or wrong, it reflects the facts of life as they were during the '80s. Having never actually experienced this myself, growing up in a major metropolis I did appreciate the realistic nature of how the various roles were depicted.

Being a huge fan of documentaries in general, I found Operation Odessa to be one of my recent favorites. Although their business choices may not have been what society considers honorable, I found the relationships that were built as a result along with their willingness to think bigger than most to be extremely interesting.
