MOVIE REVIEW: The Monkey Man Action/Thriller 2024 1.5 /5 STARS
DEV PATEL'S DESPERATE ATTEMPT TO BE DIFFERENT.
The Monkey Man is too jumbled with flashbacks and a character mix of John Wick, The Raid, Animal etc.
The Indian stories whenever shown on screen through Hollywood eyes are shown as a pitty boy from a very poor background in Hollywood movies, I just wonder when this kind of mindset of writing will stop. It looks foolish and snoby. The film is an utter jumble of too many things, looks confusing and boring. The masala touch of politics, rave parties, sex and nudity are just some penny ideas to lure the audience to a theatre. Typical Indian mindset, no different. A revenge thriller, straight forward, nothing special.
PLOT: A young man ekes out a meager living in an underground fight club where, night after night, wearing a gorilla mask, he's beaten bloody by more popular fighters for cash. After years of suppressed rage, he discovers a way to infiltrate the enclave of the city's sinister elite. As his childhood trauma boils over, his mysteriously scarred hands unleash an explosive campaign of retribution to settle the score with the men who took everything from him.
Some goodies to take away are: Cinematography, Action Choreography and lighting. Rest are average. None of the actors impress, too much of Patel presence on screen...looks very desperate.
Editing could have been better. The length of the movie is what will make you yawn in between.
Wait for it to come on OTT. Not a theatre material.
