Highest quality, mature-oriented, violent video game out on the market. Very fun, hours of fun. Play ruthlessly or stealthily, this is a very satisfying game to play. The only other mature violent game of this
quality I think comes close is Red Dead Redemption 2 and God of War 2018.
Narrative-wise this is a bleak and grim tale I can only compare to Spec Ops: The Line when it comes to video games that are this mature, grim, and grounded. Because these thematic like games are so rare, The Last of Us Part 2 is a title that would hopefully open the door for more video game makers to take more risks and actually make these kinds of titles.
If you enjoy character-study philosophical tales of mentally warped individuals like Apocalypse Now, Spec Ops: The Line, Fight Club, and American Psycho then this game is for you. This is very much Ellie's tale, and how her love/hate perception of Joel warps her mind. Initially the game puts you in Ellie's shoes on a quest out of love and tribute to someone special to her, yet as you advance in the game, you come to realize maybe this quest isn't so authentic for her? You see as more and more layers of plot get uncovered and complicate Ellie with flashbacks, body language, dialog, it's all so detailed, and it all makes for a compelling narrative.
An individual the player gets to control who is also integral to the game represents a physical embodiment as to why there's a side to Ellie that hates Joel, and by the end of the game everything comes full circle.
Almost every time I replay this game I discover something new, both game play and plot-wise. This game is a masterpiece.
For the crowd that despises this game -- with all due respect, I can only say you missed the point. Objectively, this game is such a high-quality product, and with time, more people will embrace as they've done with Spec Ops: The Line, American Psycho, and even Fight Club even if that new level of ebracement is cult-following-esque.
